Georg Philipp Telemann's Concerto in B flat major for oboe, violin, two transverse flutes and basso continuo is a testament to unique instrumentation. With violin, two violas and two traverso's harmonizing alongside the continuo, Telemann's exploration of novel sound combinations, driven by his curiosity, is proven. The emphasis on collective enjoyment over instrumental virtuosity echoes his compositional philosophy and musical quest. Comprising four movements, Telemann showcases a variety of styles giving each movement its own distinguished character. The concerto opens with a clever and elegant "Largo", characterized by gentle dotted rhythms. The binary second movement creates a dynamic dialogue between instruments while the third movement "Dolce siciliana" showcases the oboe melody accompanied by violin semiquavers, and a lively "Allegro" concludes the piece with instrument-specific variations.
