You can find in youtube the Dikir Temasek song DI pinggiran Aidilfitri studio recorded long time ago in late 1994. It was a single. Made after the success of the album 1994 DIKIR TEMASEK meaning Dikir Barat: Singapore.
Let's begin, i perform Dikir Barat from 1991 to 1998. In Singapore there are many Dikir Barat competitions in Community Centers. 2 vocalists, TOK JUARA or literal mean TOK CHAMPION, ballad vocalist. TUKANG KARUT, the word tukang mean doing handy-work like woodwork and karut means gibberish. but in poetic spontaneous wit like a rapper. It's a beautiful art. Who knows, where it all started. some say makyong originated from Thailand, to Malaysia ie Kelantan/Terengganu. about 3-5 percussionists, Rebana ibu literally mother drum, and rebana anak, offspring drum. And at least 10 or more or less awok-awok or awak awak, the chorus choir hehe, with choreographed or on the spot. Old performance without mic up but now with modern techy, microphones are used to mic up the percussions & the vocalist. the procedure. is this the vocalist Champion haha Tok Juara or the tukang Karut, the Gibberish Handyman hehe will open with a salam then a bit of vocalizing or poetic verses then the percussionists will begin their drumming then the awok-awok or awak-awak or you-you hehe literally begin singing unison for a very short time, this is the intro. And it does not have to be in all that procedute, In competition this is olly to attract the audiemce Wah attention. then Juara sings a slow ballad accapella like until about 4/5/6 minutes all along with the accompaniment of the awak-awak & the percussionists. oh forgot to mention, the maracas & the tambourine and the canang gor calipong like a high pitched gong, & a gong. then the tukang karut takes over, sing from about 6 to 10 minutes depending on the jurisdiction or rrules given by the competition-makers of the community center's group. the Karut begins with karut Yankee, or yengki, then karut spontan, then karut patani, and a karut matang and end with karut wau bulan. Won 5 Juara Terbaik awards. mean Best Champion literally. 1994 rec this song, producer Zaharian Osman, recording engineer Razzi M of the famous Black Dog Bone's singer composer guitarist. was paid $200. composed by R Azmann the lyrics. He taught me the melody for the chorus, and the solo. But i didn;t like the solo, usually in all the competitions i performed with Hikayat Putera Emas or with Ilsa Pudih, or Dendang Mutiara, melody for the verse or chorus , came up by somebody, then I will try to find my own tune for the solo. Like with Deng=dang Mutiara combined with Hiklayat Putera emas & I name the group Ilsa Pudih, with the song Denyutan Nadi Hembusan nafas mu. Did this for the biggest comps eg Piala Harun Ghani which Ilsa Pudih won with all 5 major awards eg, best percussion, Paluan terbaik,.Best Vocallist for Tok Champion, Juara terbaik, Best Tukang Karut, Best awok awok & best group. and the biggest competition with my Hikayat Putera Emas with the song Hatta kampung kita in Perdana 97/98 my last comp that I quit.
In 1994, when I was asked to do a hari Raya Song, melody & lyric was written by R Azman or Rusli Ghani , I never knew their arrangements perssonally, but i figured the melody solo could be voluptous like how i often do it to showcase the song & the vocals. so i came up with the solo melody and I sang it, but being always the forgetful novice melody maker that I am, i tend to falter some of the melody & Razzi M being familiar with chords brought a guitar and helped me recall the melodies that I was singing. So it was written Lirik & Song R Azmann, Razzi M. So no compass royalty for me since this song came out like hotcakes for Hari Raya since 1994 till now. hehe. Allah give me this as a test. Patience. Allahu akbar. and 2D or dua dimensi covered this song in early 2000s with their own new solo melody so it will be only R Azmann and whomever lah getting the royalty. And i was asked to sing a remake of the song a few years later. Some fans have mentioned that this song is a must song during Ramadhan. fasting period till we end of Syawal, Raya in a month. I am a small celebrity. So without fans. i am nothing Just a fulltime house husband & father, taking care of all under the roof. God willing. I sang this when I get a request. I try to do like originally whilst adding my own latest improvs. 2022-1994= 28yrs, 2 years more it'll be 30 years anniversary. So here goes, the nearly 30 year anniversary of the DIKIR Temasek Raya song Di Pinggiran Aidlfitri.
