A child's guide to local anaesthetics

Numb and Numb-er is an animated film aimed at children aged 4-10 and their families to give information and understanding to what happens in a local anaesthetic, to ease worries and concerns.

The film will help kids having a simple operation in the hospital to make an informed decision about whether to have a local anaesthetic or general anaesthetic.

The film draws closely on the personal stories of children who have experienced a local anaesthetic before and after an operation as well as being guided by health professionals.

Where you are able, having a local anaesthetic means an operation takes a few hours with minimal drugs instead of a general anaesthetic which can take a number of hours /an overnight stay with much more anaesthetic drugs in the body. Watch ‘A Little Deep Sleep’ to learn more about general anaesthetic.
