The IEC has confirmed that it has received a letter from Jabulani Khumalo requesting that former President Jacob Zuma be removed as the leader of the uMkhonto weSizwe party. The Commission says it will not involve itself in the internal affairs of political parties. It further states that Jacob Zuma is the registered leader of MK Party.

This comes after Khumalo sent a letter to the Commission requesting that they urgently remove Zuma as the face of the party and its president. Khumalo says Zuma occupies both positions through fraudulent and illegal ways. At the same time the SABC has seen a letter - sent to the IEC and dated the 9th of April, in which Khumalo tendered his resignation as the MK party leader and stated that Zuma would be the leader and face of the MK party.

And despite the wrangling in the party a small group of MK supporters kept their word and descended on Luthuli House this morning, albeit for a short while. On Sunday, Zuma who faces two counts of contravening the ANC constitution through his involvement with the MK Party, which he now leads - was informed of the postponement. The DC was put in abeyance, until after the 2024 National and Provincial elections, on the advice of the party's Secretary-General, Fikile Mbalula, who cited security concerns.

Political Analyst Dr Levy Ndou joins us via video link to weigh in on the developments regarding the MK party.
