In our continuing initiative to support small businesses, we visit Momo Shop, a passion enterprise of Ronald George who fell in love with momos whilst pursuing an advanced mountaineering course in Darjeeling, with plans to eventually join the army like his father and brother, both war heroes. Unfortunately, that wasn’t to be owing to an accident, necessitating him to switch tracks to a corporate career. However, after 11 years, he decided to return to his love for momos in 2010 and set up a tiny 100 sq. ft. shop in RT Nagar, North Bengaluru to serve the freshest momos. How fresh? Unlike typical momo shops which pre-cook and reheat momos to serve customers instantly, out here these steamed dumplings are prepared from scratch, from rolling out the dough to preparing the filling, only when an order is placed. This approach has won for Ronald a steady stream of customers over the years, facilitating his shop’s move to a slightly larger space.
