Henry Cavill has confirmed what passionate hero-loving moviegoers have been waiting for – the British actor will return to the role of Clark Kent, also known as Superman, in the DC Comics extended cinematic universe.

Seeing Henry Cavill show up in Black Adam’s mid-credits scene seemed like all the proof we needed to know that Warner Bros. had big plans for the actor’s future as Superman. Cavill himself posted a video on Instagram confirming that he was officially returning as the Man of Steel in future DC projects.

Following this weekend's showing, Cavill has officially announced his return on his Instagram account, posting a message to fans. "I wanted to make it official that I am back as Superman and the image you see in this post and what you saw in Black Adam are a very small taste of what's to come," Cavill says.

Cavill’s brief scene at the end of “Black Adam” – one of the most exciting moments in the film – promises a future standoff between the legendary Kryptonian and Johnson’s all-powerful Adam.

However, many are clamoring for another standalone film for Cavill’s Superman, which would mark the first since 2013’s “Man of Steel.”

While Superman has been taking over the Black Adam news cycle, Johnson's entry into the DCEU represents some kind of new direction for DC under Warner Bros. Discovery. Earlier reports stated that focusing on high-profile characters like Superman would be one of the goals for the new owners and Johnson has been playing up the Black Adam vs. Superman angle himself during the press tours.

Black Adam also introduces the JSA as a new superhero team to the DC movie universe. Along with the continuing separate storylines of Shazam, Aquaman, and whatever potential universe changes will follow The Flash, this could all be leading to some new status quo for the DCEU.
