Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell has revealed the federal government is considering setting up an effective domestic gas reservation and forcing producers to sell into the domestic market at a certain price.

“My understanding is the government intends to leave action on coal price, which makes up about 50 per cent of the cost of electricity bills to the state governments to act,” Mr Clennell said.

“My understanding is that the government will force uncontracted exporters of gas to sell into the domestic market at an effectively capped price.”
