Just Run The First Mile | Elise Downing | TEDxLSE

How often do you look at a big challenge, and wonder if you can achieve it in its entirety, right there and then? And the answer is probably no, most of the time. But that's okay, all you need to be able to do in that moment is to take the very first step towards the goal - the rest comes later. Elise talks about how she became the first woman and youngest person to run a 5000 mile, self-supported lap of the British coast (an adventure she was completely unqualified for) by simply running the first mile. Elise is a writer and long-distance runner from the Midlands, UK. In 2016 she became the first woman and youngest person to run 5000 miles self-supported around the coast of Britain. She ran up to 40 miles per day carrying her kit on her back and was helped along the way by the kindness of several hundred strangers. Her first book, Coasting, is due to be published later in 2021, an account of her ten-month long adventure. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
