Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles (or just Sonic 3 as I like to call it) was the epitome of the blue hedgehog's adventures. It was the best qualities of all the previous games brought together in one massive adventure that set the precedent for the rest of the series in terms of tone, story-telling, character, and gameplay. I did not like this game as a kid, neither Sonic 3 nor Sonic & Knuckles; I thought they were way too difficult compared to the previous game. But now, I love it, it's absolutely not just one of my favorite Sonic games, but probably one of my favorite video games, period.
