1:28 Mechanic didn't mention what kind of vehicle, but it looks to be from a Chevrolet Blazer. A bad u-joint can cause quite a bit of damage, so replace them right away and check your u-joints every service.

My guess is that the front pinion seal was leaking for so long then the differential ran out of fluid, got really really hot then self-destructed.
