DOJ Warned of Mass Resignations If Trump Appointed Jeffrey Clark

Just hours before a fateful Jan. 3 meeting with Justice Department officials, the White House labeled Trump ally Jeffrey Clark, an environmental lawyer who played a key role in trying to help overturn the election, as acting attorney general on its call logs.

“As far as the White House was concerned, Mr. Clark was already at the top of the Justice Department,” Illinois Republican Adam Kinzinger, a panel member, said.

Justice Department officials ultimately swayed Trump that Clark’s ascension would lead to mass resignations. “I’m not working one minute for this guy,” Donoghue said he told Trump of Clark.
