University introduced the original 315 sometime late in 1955, right on the coattails of the G610 -- it was already a very well vetted. Utilizing the phenomenal heavy cast C15W type woofer, and one of University’s potent, and reliable compression tweeters -- and the midrange radiator ….
By late 1958, these University 315-C was introduced -- an update with slightly lower cone resonance, more excursion and a stiffer, wider cambric accordion edge.

Like the G610 -- these 315’s were super costly -- purchased by only a few wealthy HiFi buyers of the 1950s and 1960s. When introduced in 1955 -- the 315 cost was around $2000/each (inflation adjusted $220 in 1955 ...as was the Jensen G610 which was a even pricer $247). Unlike the Jensen G610, and 604 the University 315 had a brief production life, only into the mid 1960s -- and few were sold -- making them both a rare find -- and a sleeping bargain -- not common in the world of classic HiFi.

Buyers dreaming and saving up to buy the wonderful Jensen G610; should consider the 315 as a tempting, beguiling waystation on the motorway to the rarified land of much more expensive 1950s American built super speakers. Collectors who already own 604’s or G610’s will find the 315c a very capable alternative presenter of all your favorite passages…. Every interested audio buyer will find these to be bargain priced investments likely to rise alongside it’s very loftily appraised competition.
