2021 Isuzu D-Max Problems

The 2021 Isuzu D-Max is the new medium truck from the Japanese company. It has been out in some markets now for 6 months with very strong sales.

The D-Max is considered the main competitor to the king in this market the Toyota Hilux. With a new interior giving it a more modern and upmarket feel the D-Max is definitely a front runner when thinking about renewing your truck.

Due to this being such a new vehicle there have been a few issues that customers have had. Today we are going to look at these a little more so that you can be informed when making your new purchase.

The first major issue is the steering column, a high percentage of owners have reported noises and shaking whilst driving. Isuzu have been quick to replace these units, but they have failed again after replacement.

It looks like they have come up with a fix, you can see in the right picture that there is a new design so far customers have not reported any issues with this. But as of now this is not being put into models built at the factory. We advise you inspect your steering column before taking delivery to make sure you have the new design.

The second issue we are seeing is coming from the gearbox on box automatics and manuals. There are some fluid leaks that have been spotted and fixed under warranty.

This owner spotted the leaking early on and got his truck fixed under warranty. Other owners with manual gear boxes have reported oil leaks into the clutch area causing it to slip. Again, it looks like all this has been covered and repaired by Isuzu, but it is something to check for after purchase as these problems have been occurring between 2k to 12k kilometers.

Overall, we think the 2021 Isuzu D-Max is a really nice-looking truck with some great features. The problems we have seen so far look like early run issues but its important to check for these and question your dealer if these have been fixed on your model.
