What went wrong with the Caves and Cliffs update?

Minecraft, a game originally released in 2012, has recieved continuous updates throughout the games lifespan, such as notability the 1.16 update or the nether update, that completely reworked the nether dimension.

In 1.17, minecraft announced yet another HUGE update called the Caves and Cliffs update, that reworked the caves and well the cliffs, and also saw new additions like the warden, however after this update, everything went wrong, so what went wrong with the 1.17 caves and cliffs update for minecraft and how did it get ruined?
