Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., presented new footage of the Capitol insurrection June 9 during the first day of public hearings for the House Jan. 6 committee. The committee obtained the footage as part of its investigation.

"This was no tourist visit to the Capitol," said Thompson, chairman of the committee.

One woman is filmed in front of the Washington Monument saying she can't say what is about to happen, but "everyone is just going to have to watch for themselves." Law enforcement is heard communicating through radio channels about the protest's movement which inched closer to the Capitol, and desperately calling that they've lost the line as various security points are breached.

Once inside the Capitol, rioters are shown saying they're willing to die during the attack. Rioters are seen attacking police on the steps of the capitol as windows and doors are breached. President Donald Trump can be heard saying there was "love in the air" that day.

The committee plans to hold a series of hearings this month laying out findings from its yearlong investigation, which included more than 1,000 interviews and tens of thousands of documents from witnesses to and participants in the violence.
