The Australia Institute's Ebony Bennett says "no one comes out of this covered in glory" as the government and Novak Djokovic await a federal court decision over the tennis star's visa.

Ms Bennett said Mr Djokovic should take responsibility for not being more aware of Australia's border entry laws.

However, she also maintained Tennis Australia and the government have "not responded very well either".

"It will be highly embarrassing for the government if this gets turned over on a technicality – I believe the court has adjourned and we won't find out until tomorrow," she said.
