Confirmed reports on March 4, 2022, revealed that Warner Bros. was in the process of developing I Am Legend 2. The return of screenwriter Akiva Goldsman to craft the script is seen as a promising development. Initially, a sequel to I Am Legend was planned as a prequel featuring Smith, generating anticipation for several years post the original movie's success.

Despite numerous exciting updates, I Am Legend 2 remains firmly entrenched in the pre-production stage.
