President Joe Biden has once again lashed out at his own press corps, praising how "well behaved" the Indian journalists were during a meeting with the country’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the White House.

President Biden told Prime Minister Modi he will be able to ignore the waiting press pack, who had gathered at the Oval Office.

"I think what we're going to do is bring in the press," President Biden said.

“The Indian press is much better behaved than the American press.

"I think, with your permission, you could not answer questions because they won’t ask any questions on point.”

President Biden’s offhand remarks about the press was later omitted from the official White House transcript of the meeting.

The comments were criticised by many reporters, who pointed out that the president should not want to emulate India when it comes to press freedom.

“India ranks 142nd in the world in press freedom, according to Reporters Without Borders. Russia is 150th (U.S. is 44),” investigative reporter Chuck Ross tweeted.

The comments come after the White House press corps filed a formal complaint over President Biden’s refusal to take any questions to White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki.

They made the complaint after UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson fielded questions from British journalists while visiting the White House, but President Biden did not.
