This review will cover the Polygon 24 inch bike and the Polygon 20 inch bike.
If you’re on a budget and looking for a neighborhood bike or a multi-use bike for paved or basic dirt trails, go for the Polygon Premier. Whether your child is a timid rider or an aggressive rider, go for the Polygon Premier! Yes, they are that good for their price.
With a semi-upright position that allows kids to sit up for everyday rides around the neighborhood, or aggressively lean into jumps or steep inclines, the Premier is very versatile.

While the Polygon Premier Ultralight has the look and the feel of a true mountain bike, due to its basic components, it’s not quite ready to tackle single track, but with its lightweight build and kid-friendly geometry, it’s a great starter bike for basic trails.

At this price point and under, kids bikes are typically bulky and heavy.
The Polygon Premier 20 inch and 24 inch bikes are lighter or on par with most quality kids’ bikes. Lightweight bikes are key to providing an easy, intuitive riding experience for kids. Heavy bikes are typically much harder for kids to maneuver and kids tire out more quickly.

That lightweight frame also looks pretty sweet and features a matte paint job with premium heat-transferred decals. You won’t find any cheap stickers on a Polygon that will scratch off with time!

While the gain ratio of the Polygon is pretty narrow in range (neither bike has a really high or low gear), its 7 gears provided plenty of power to get up mild hills as well as easily power up rolling dirt paths, jumps, or pump tracks with ease.

The Polygon Premier 20 and 24 inch are equipped with the same Shimano Tourney components set. Both the shifter and the derailleur performed great out of the box, but they certainly aren’t high-end components that will last for years to come.

In order to help preserve the life of the derailleur, Polygon has equipped both size bikes with a derailleur cage and a derailleur hanger. Both can be lifesavers in protecting derailleurs from being damaged or bent as a result of a crash or from simply setting the bike down onto the derailleur.

The Shimano Tourney grip shifter can be problematic for some young riders, especially those new to shifting on 20 inch bikes. Due to the large protrusion on the rotating portion of the Tourney shifter, it can be difficult for some kids with small hands to engage the twist grip to change gears.
To be fair, the Shimano Tourney shifter is very common at this price point, making this an issue with ALL bikes in the Premier’s price range.
Brakes

The Polygon Premiers come with quality v-brakes that provide plenty of stopping power with minimal effort. High-end bikes do offer better quality braking via Tektro branded brakes or mechanical or hydraulic brakes, but they lead to a large overall increase in the price of the bike. For the average rider, the brakes on the Polygon will do just great.

Polygon Premier Ultralight Kids bikes are available only in 20” and 24” models. With kid-friendly geometry, these bikes feature much lower seat heights than any 20” or 24” bike you’ll find at a big-box store. The 20” has a minimum seat height of 21.25” while the 24 inch bike has a minimum seat height of 25.5”. For help finding the right size bike for YOUR child, check out our Kids Bike Sizing video.

Selling only factory-direct to consumers, Polygon takes the time to prepare and package their bikes to make assembly quick and easy. Like all brands, the handlebars, front wheel, and pedals need to be installed upon arrival. We were particularly surprised to find that the brakes on both of the bikes didn’t need any adjusting out of the box. This is rare, even among high-end bikes. Considering brake adjustments are usually the most complicated part of assembling a bike, this will come as welcome news to parents!
