2022 Jaguar F Pace SVR (overview)

In the world of compact-luxury SUVs, the 2022 Jaguar F-Pace is one of the most beautifully designed options out there, and the SVR variant adds fire-breathing performance via a V-8 powertrain. Indeed, this is no soft-spoken Brit. Its 550-hp engine means this Jag can really hustle. And unlike so many of its high-performance rivals, the F-Pace SVR retains the smooth and agreeable ride of its luxury-minded siblings rather than ratcheting up the stiffness. In the handling department, the Jag is confident and fun but not quite up to the level of the Porsche Macan Turbo or BMW X3 M.

F-Pace SVR, $85,950.

All Jaguar F-Pace SVR SUVs come with a muscular supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 under the hood. This engine generates an impressive 550 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque and comes paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends torque to all four wheels. The 2019 F-Pace SVR made the 60-mph run in a scant 4.1 seconds, but improvements to the powertrain for 2021 should result in even quicker acceleration. But while 4.1 seconds is indeed impressive for a vehicle this size, it trails the time logged by the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio. That SUV made the dash in a crisp 3.4 seconds. It also lags the 3.7-second time of the Performance-pack-equipped Porsche Macan Turbo.

The cabin design is both elegant and sporty. The aggressively bolstered front seats are attractive to the eyes and comfortable to the backsides. We're fans of the quilted upholstery, which boosts the luxury quotient within the cabin. Both rows of seats provide reasonably roomy accommodations for adults.

Jaguar has equipped the F-Pace SVR with a load of tech features. All models come standard with an 11-speaker Meridian audio system and an infotainment system with a 11.4-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration is on hand to help you seamlessly connect your devices, and Bluetooth phone and music streaming comes standard. All models are equipped with navigation and SiriusXM satellite radio, too, as well as a Wi-Fi hotspot.

2021 Mercedes AMG GLE 53 Coupe (overview)

In the same way that thunder always follows lightning, more powerful AMG-tuned models always follow their mellower Mercedes-Benz counterparts. In this case, that happens to be the GLE-class coupe and SUV. Both body styles are offered with twin-turbo engines that make 429 horsepower on the six-cylinder GLE53 and 603 horses on the V-8–powered GLE63 S. While the latter is absolutely bonkers, it's also much more expensive than its less powerful sibling. Still, both deliver incredible levels of luxury and loads of high-tech features. The coupe's polarizing style will likely deter as many shoppers as it attracts, but it's meant to compete with rivals such as the BMW X6 M. The squareback AMG alternative will please traditionalist with its added practicality. Regardless, each 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLE-class will pacify driving enthusiasts who want a high-riding crossover SUV.

The 2021 GLE53 and GLE63 S are very similar except for their discrepancy in power. They both share a nine-speed automatic transmission and standard 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. Likewise, their gas engines are supplemented by an electric supercharger that's powered by a 48-volt electrical system. It helps the GLE53's twin-turbo six-cylinder make 429 horsepower, and it helps generate 603 horses with the twin-turbo V-8 found on the GLE63 S. Both GLE models also feature a trick suspension that consists of an air-bag system coupled with active anti-roll bars that's said to provide corner-carving capabilities without sacrificing ride quality.

Inside, two giant digital displays dominate the dashboard of every 2021 GLE-class. The interior environs are sportier than the standard Benz models, though, as the AMG versions come with sport seats with red contrasting stitching, a sport steering wheel, red seatbelts, and aluminum accents. Their cabin is spacious, too, even in the back seat. A third row of seats is also optional.

Infotainment and Connectivity

Twin 12.3-inch infotainment displays dominate the GLE's dashboard and, just as in lesser Benz-branded GLE-classes, the AMG models support the latest MBUX software interface. The driver and front-seat passenger can interact with the system via the touchscreen or by utilizing the center-console mounted clickwheel or simply saying "Hey Mercedes" then giving a voice command.
