A native of Pittsburgh, PA, Mary Lou Williams defied gender and racial stereotypes, pushing the boundaries of what was possible in jazz music. Known as the "first lady of the jazz keyboard," Williams arranged for jazz legends Benny Goodman, Dizzy Gillespie, and more.
