The official trailer for Dexter: New Blood is out. We break that down and look at all the other news and information that’s out there about the upcoming series. Season 9 will premiere on November 7th, 2021.

The new promo shows Dexter (Michael C. Hall) and his girlfriend Angela (Julia Jones), who is the Police Chief in Iron Lake. Dex has relocated there because its small population of 2760 means he shouldn’t be tempted to indulge his Dark Passenger. In this trailer, we see his sister Debra (Jenifer Carpenter) as she’s taken the place of his father Harry.

Showtime’s revival of Dexter is a limited event series titled “New Blood”. It’s technically the ninth season of the hit show, but the producers are stressing that it’s a series of its own rather than a continuation.

Dexter: New Blood is a continuation of the popular Showtime series starring Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan. The original show ran for eight seasons from 2006 - 2013. Dexter was a popular show, and generally critically acclaimed through its first four seasons. When the series finale aired fans and critics alike were disappointed with the ending. Eight years later Dexter is back and the original showrunner Clyde Phillips hopes season 9 will give the character the ending he deserves.

The release date for Dexter’s ninth season is November 7, 2021. This video discusses the Official Trailer for New Blood, and what Harrison’s return might mean for the season.


8 years after Dexter Morgan went missing in the eye of Hurricane Laura, everyone in Miami believes he is dead. His son Harrison made it to Argentina with Hannah, and Dexter lived under an assumed name in Oregon. Now he’s settled in Iron Lake, NY, working at a local hunting outfitter under the alias Jim Lindsay.

Dexter's new revival cast also includes Julia Jones (Westworld), Alano Miller (Sylvie’s Love), Johnny Sequoyah (Believe), Jamie Chung (Lovecraft Country), Oscar Wahlberg (NOS4A2), Jack Alcott (The Good Lord Bird), and Michael Cyril Creighton. Clancy Brown will play a new villain that Dexter will have to face off against. Clyde Phillips, who served as the showrunner for the four first seasons of Dexter, will return for that role, as well as produce alongside Hall and director Marcos Siega.

The Dexter television series follows the life of Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), a Miami Metro Police Department blood pattern analyst with a double life. While investigating murders in the homicide division, Dexter hunts and kills murderers who have escaped the justice system.

The series is based on characters created by Jeff Lindsay for his "Dexter" series of novels. Although the first season is based on the events of the first book, Darkly Dreaming Dexter, the series' subsequent seasons follow different storylines than in the novels. DEXTER was developed for television by James Manos, Jr.
