Trump Frees Stone, Barr Imprisons Cohen. The Goal Is The Same: Silence Witnesses to Protect Trump

Donald Trump commutes Roger Stone's sentence, reducing it from 40 months in prison to not one single minute in prison. This present to Ston comes after Stone said, 'I did not turn on you, Mr. President, and now I want a sentence commutation. This was plainly and inarguable a move designed to keep Stone silent. In a related move, on July 9, 2020, the Bureau of Prisons (BOP), under the control of Bill Barr tells Michael Cohen to sign a document saying he will not write a book, talk with the media or use social media AND he must tell his family members to do the same. This comes amidst Trump attempting to shut down critical, tell-all books by his niece Mary Trump and his former National Security Advisor John Bolton. Cohen and his attorney refuse, as it would constitute a violation of Cohen's 1st Amendment free speech rights. When he refuses to sign the agreement, the BOP takes him into custody and puts him back in prison. These two incidents make clear that every Trump/Barr perversion of the criminal justice system is designed to silence witnesses who can provide sharply incriminating information about Donald Trumps crimes and corruption.
