SAA, Comair under the spotlight following grounding of planes

Scores of air travellers were left frustrated yesterday when the Civil Aviation Authority grounded about ten aircraft. SAA and Comair flights had to operate on amended flight schedules.

Planes were grounded following an inspection by the Civil Aviation Authority, which then led to concerns about passenger safety. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula assured the public there was no crisis in the country's aviation sector.

To discuss this more with us, I'm joined from Hoedspruit via Skype by aviation expert Guy Leitch, Editor & Publisher of SA Flyer Magazine as well as Simon Segwabe who is the Executive for Aviation Safety Operations at South African Civil Aviation Authority.

But first...we tried to contact South African Airways who did not responded to our request.
We also made contact with Comair who sent us a statement saying the company expects its full fleet to be operational today.

We also contacted the Airports Company South Africa who said the matter is between the CAA and the airlines concerned.
