‘Unity’ between left and right on Julian Assange

There has been some “unity” between people on the left and on the right in relation to Julian Assange’s case, according to barrister Greg Barns.

Mr Barns, who has been an adviser to the Australian Assange Campaign, says the use of the Espionage Act to prosecute Mr Assange, despite him not being a US citizen or setting foot on US soil when committing the alleged crimes “is unprecedented”.

“This is why I think a lot of journalists, including journalists on the right, have got upset about it," he told Sky News host Andrew Bolt.

“It means that any journalist who published material that the US deem not to be in its interests, or which were security classified, could find themselves on the end of an extradition request.”
