Peter Ostrum got into acting as an extracurricular activity during his youth and was spotted by talent scouts during a performance at a children’s theater in the sixth grade. These talent scouts then got Peter the part of Charlie Bucket in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and the rest is history! Peter had a good time making the movie, which was filmed in Germany. Peter was glad for the opportunity to travel abroad, and also appreciated meeting such screen legends as Gene Wilder and Jack Albertson.

Despite the fact that Peter Ostrum had a good experience filming Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, he chose to exit the entertainment industry after production was finished. Some have speculated that the reason Peter did so was that the film wasn’t as positively received as the studio had hoped. However, Peter claims that he was offered a three-picture contract after the movie was released.
