Details about the place we went on Odigo!
A good majority of the restaurants you go to in Japan will have these fake food replicas (called "samples" or サンプル/sanpuru in Japanese) displayed outside their front door so you can see exactly what their menu looks like before you go inside! I wish these were everywhere. :D

Silentgrace11 3 года назад I've lived here for a few months now for study abroad, and I still get fooled sometimes. Especially by things that don't physically expire all that much (ie: potato chips) yet there will be models for them. Or if it's a bakery, since it's hard to tell if they have multiple desserts in the display case since that's where they're pulling them out from, or if they're just samples made to look like that ^^"

  • 八戸太郎
八戸太郎 3 года назад Oh, I really feel pity for you. There are a lot of ramen restaurant in Japan. Please come to Japan someday.
  • Jiji Poid
Jiji Poid 3 года назад there is a Japanese chain called Masu they have good ramen imo.. I think it is as close as you will get it here in the U.S. Of course you can't beat getting ramen from the source its self (that being Japan) Buutt.. i think it is very good.. I am not sure if they only have Masu's in Minnesota.. but if you ever go to the mall of America.. there is a chain in that mall.. and I have been to both locations in Minneapolis and imo the one in the mall is the better one.. tho that one closes earlier with the mall.. but they have pachiko! :D.. also there is a market called Mitsuwa there around Chicago somewhere.. that does have a food court inside :). I haven't really eaten anything from there.. I have only purchased regular unprepared food from there..

  • dhrcat
dhrcat 3 года назад I once ate what they call "miso ramen" here in Atlanta when it actually was noodle soaked in miso soup orz
  • Andre Darius
Andre Darius 3 года назад Ramen is kinda different everywhere you eat. Everyplace has their own noodle, and even some place made their own noodle. The broth also has different taste, but most of them uses beef broth or chicken broth, combined with some other flavoring, like shoyu (japanese soy sauce), miso (fermented rice, maybe), curry (or kare, different than indian curry), and some other flavor (haven't seen any other than those). What made a ramen, a ramen is the broth, but most of ramen has some toppings, such as egg, green onion, pork, sometimes beef or chicken, narutomaki (should be a fish cake or something), and dried seaweed. The egg might has brownish color on the outer side of the egg, and that's shoyu to give more flavor to the egg. Even if it's not as "ramen" as a ramen should be, as long as you enjoy your food, isn't that a good thing?
  • Dumb Duck

  • girhen
girhen 3 года назад @sanchaofgo Maybe you'd like Raku Ramen in Duluth, just off I-85. I got to the place and the entire mall was in Korean, Japanese, and maybe other languages. I was worried it wouldn't have an English sign (they did). The menu was in Japanese and English. The green tea wasn't sweetened at all, either. All signs that might actually be the authentic. The one I had included a clam (in shell), shrimp (with head and all), and octopus. I didn't even know those were in there by description, so don't expect full disclosure from the menu alone.
  • dhrcat
dhrcat 3 года назад @girhen Thanks for the info. The ramen you ate sounds like what they call Champon in Japan or Jjamppong in Korea (if red soup). I recently tried "Jinya Ramen Bar" on Roswell Rd. Their simple Tonkotsu noodle was pretty authentic.

  • Katie
Katie 3 года назад We can't do this in the US. The standard would be set too high for all of the cooks. But at the end of the day, I'm more concerned about taste than presentation :)
  • Elis G
Elis G 3 года назад I dont imagine it would be any higher though? We already do stuff like this... Kinda. o: Cereal ads use glue as milk when taking photos because actual milk gets cereal too soggy. (And the cereal doesnt sit nicely on top of milk most times.) I can imaging other advertisements do the same as well, because real food is more unpredictable. We're mainly sample-users for advertising purposes, not as much to see your food before ordering. :P
  • DinosourousRexx

Rachel and Jun 3 года назад What's the Chinese fake food? I'm not sure what that is--this is just the most accurate title I could think of, other than "fake food replica". But I prefer the word sample since that's the word they use for it in Japan.
