Before Marvel and the MCU, before Chris Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy, before Sam Raimi’s Spider-man and even Bryan Singer’s X-Men had opened the door for comicbookmovies; New Line Cinema founder Robert Shaye saw the potential, and released movies such as Blade, The Mask, and the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Perhaps most known for facilitating Wes Craven’s a Nightmare on Elm Street franchise and Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, movie mogul Robert Shaye has been involved in the production of more than 600 movies over the course of his career, in capacities ranging from directing, to producing, to distributing and even acting.

In this in-depth interview with Tom and Andre from Midnight’s Edge, Robert Shaye talks about breaking into the industry, the formation and evolution of New Line Cinema, and the many projects which shaped not just Shaye’s career, but which also influenced the direction of the industry, and genre culture as a whole.
