The truth of New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon’s residence has been revealed after a conversation early in March with Australian cricketer Usman Khawaja sparked a cost-of-living scandal, Sky News NZ correspondent Jack Nyhof reports.

Earlier in March, a conversation between the sports star and the NZ PM drew attention after it was discovered the top politician was claiming tens of thousands of dollars to not live in his own residence.

After initially saying the entire upstairs of the residence was condemned, Mr Luxton then switched to informing media the upstairs was unlivable due to repairs.

A clearer insight has been found after secret documents were obtained by Sky News which stated the terrible living conditions upstairs and had recommended a full refurbishment at some $30 million.

A proposed plan of continued maintenance to span over two decades has suggested a $24 million spend.
