Kenpachi and Byakuya are the same character - no, I'm not kidding.

Well okay, maybe a bit. But in reality, Kubo mirrors the development of both of these characters throughout the entire story, as well as their arc with Ichigo, to the point where the way they're used and their impact feels almost identical.
