In this video, Moïse LOUISY-LOUIS, Assistant Professor of Finance and Accounting at EDHEC Business School, draws a parallel between the role of Merger Arbitrage Analyst and a Private Investigator. After a brief overview of what Merger Arbitrage is, Moïse explains that analysts perform surgical analysis of M&A situations in order to determine the probability of deal failure and advise clients about the best investment strategy. Given the complexity and uncertainty that surround event-driven situations, analysts need to obviously enjoy solid technical skills but most of all need to develop and nurture a private investigator’s mindset, especially be curious and run the fact-check! This attitude should apply to each of us in our lives... Moïse was formerly an Event-Driven Analyst at a brokerage house advising institutional clients on large European and U.S. M&A deals between 2014 and 2017.
Prior to this, Moïse was an equity analyst in the Hedge Fund industry for five years, where he focused on the energy, oil, banking and pharmaceutical sectors.
Moïse was born in Martinique, is married and the father of a boy and a girl. Moïse speaks fluently English and Spanish (French native). This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
