We went down alleys and every alley as you passed had an RPG gunner just hammering away at the tanks but you know, better they shoot at us than at the infantry, and then the infantrymen would come up and take care of the problem, we would provide fires and destroy suspected enemy positions."

38. SOUNDBITE (English) Sergeant Joseph Alvey, Alfa Company, Task Force 2-2, 1st Infantry Division: (soundbite partially laid under shots 1-8)
"We breached right here. We found an R-P-G outside, and this door was already open so we didn't have to breach it. So we just kicked down the door. I sent my Alfa team up this way. They secured the stairwell, we saw multiple doors. At this point in time, we had security up, four right here, and Alfa team. They stacked up right here, and at that point in time before they went in they saw this guy right here (points to body in room). They engaged him. He was standing up. It was pretty dark in here. He came in there. After we engaged him we saw the vehicle here so we know the vehicles are a big taboo because of the vehicle borne I-E-D (Improvised Explosive Device) threat. We came up here, we knew we had to finish clearing. We also had clearing going on in the rest of the rooms. We had this guy down, so we came up right here to go inspect what the car had and finish clearing the garage. As we came in here, we noticed right away we saw the dishka mounted on the gun truck right here. We saw this guy's body crumpled up right there (body on ground). And that's when we started noticing we had outside R-P-Gs. We cleared this area, took a little caution here because of the vehicle borne I-E-D threat. We pretty much secured the area, finished clearing right here, and then called it up - what was going on, and then we started securing all the weapons."
