Final Fantasy: The Story of Hironobu Sakaguchi and the Game That Saved Square

A popular story is told about how the Final Fantasy series got its name. While working at Square, one employee, Hironobu Sakaguchi, decided on the name as it reflected his last-ditched attempt to save the company from financial ruin.

Beyond this, though, the story gets even better. Hironobu Sakaguchi's journey shows how anyone can succeed if they work hard enough, even in a saturated market that's full of roleplaying game competitors.

As gamers across the world enjoy Final Fantasy XV, here's our little video on the story of the Final Fantasy series, its origins as a Dragon Quest clone, and the period during which it was developed under the working title of 'Final Fantasy'.
