Dubai-based colored gemstone mining and marketing company, Fura Gems, has made history with the sale of the "Estrela de Fura," meaning "Star of Fura" in Portuguese.

This extraordinary 55.22 carat ruby has secured its place as the largest ruby ever sold at auction, fetching a remarkable world record price for both a ruby and any colored gemstone sold at auction. Sotheby's had the privilege of auctioning this exceptional gem, which exceeded expectations by selling for an astonishing sum of $34.8 million.

The "Estrela de Fura" discovered in July 2022 in Montepuez, Mozambique. The original rough stone weighed an impressive 101 carats.

The ruby weighs 55.222 carats with dimensions of 21.08 x 19.83 x 14.7 millimeters, in a beautiful cushion with mixed cut. The color of the ruby is described as a vivid red, aka pigeon blood.
