Maestro Fresh Wes on making Canadian hip hop history

His debut single Let Your Backbone slide became the first Canadian certified gold rap song in 1989, and now Maestro Fresh Wes is heading to the Canadian Songwriters’ Hall of Fame. He talks to The National’s Andrew Chang about the song’s legacy and how far Canadian hip hop has come since then.
