How to gel stain kitchen cabinets

Описание к видео How to gel stain kitchen cabinets

This is a more detailed video than my last one on "How to gel stain your kitchen cabinets". Sorry that it's so long but I wanted to make sure I covered as much as possible, but I'm sure I missed a few things. The gel stain is made by (General finishes) and the color is called (Java) which is a dark espresso or dark chocolate color.

Items you will need:
TSP Trisodium Phosphate for cleaning the cabinets.
3m stripping pads (medium coarseness)
Purdy XL nylon/Polyester brush, I used a 2.0 to 2.5-inch brush.
Painters pyramids or hard foam pads are helpful in holding up the doors off the table while staining.
Gel stain, I bought two 1 quart cans and used 1-1/2 quart.
Synthetic steel wool #000 or finish scuffing pads for "lightly" scuffing in between coats.
Minwax fast-drying Polyurethane Satin finish about 2 quarts.
Painters towels or a good lint-free rag for applying the polyurethane.
Mineral spirits or paint thinner for cleaning the brushes and anything else you did not intend to stain.

Direction on how I did it.

1: Clean cabinets with TSP as I explained in the video.
2: use a medium stripping pad to scuff up the cabinets and then clean the dust off.
3: Mix gel stain well with a paint stir stick and apply gel stain in thin coats so you don't get brush lines with the Purdy XL brush, at least two thin coats.
4: Lightly scuff between gel stain coats and before poly coat with synthetic #000 steel wool or finish scuffing pads, careful not to scuff gel stain off the edges, then clean any dust off. Let gel stain dry 24hrs between coats.
5: Apply Minwax fast-drying "satin finish" poly with a lint-free rag or towel at least two coats.
6: Lightly scuff in between poly coats except for the last coat of course. Let poly dry for at least 4 hours before scuffing with synthetic steel wool.

If you do get a few air bubbles in the poly when you're applying it, just blow quick bursts of air on the bubbles and they'll go away.
