A thunderbolt 2 port can transfer data 4x the speed of a usb3 port. And it would be nice to make use of it. There is a problem in using adapters for new thunderbolt 3 and usb-c devices though. This video addresses the problem, tells you why it don't work right of the bat, and shows a solution to this problem.
