In This video @TheMrunalPatel explores a recent case by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) involving an employee of Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) and their family. The case highlights the illegal practice of front-running in the stock market.

Front-running occurs when someone, typically a broker or someone with access to privileged information, uses non-public knowledge about upcoming trades to their own advantage. They essentially "jump the queue" and execute trades before the intended order is placed, potentially influencing the stock price and harming other investors.

SEBI's Order and Allegations

In April 2023, SEBI barred five individuals, including an LIC employee (Yogesh Garg), from the securities market. They were accused of front-running LIC's trades, potentially profiting by misusing non-public information about the insurer's investment plans. SEBI also impounded alleged illegal gains totaling Rs 2.44 crore.

The order details how Yogesh Garg, allegedly in possession of upcoming LIC trade information, acted as an information carrier. He's further suspected of using the account of a deceased individual (Ved Parkash Garg) to execute trades based on this non-public knowledge.

SEBI believes the other four individuals – possibly family members based on shared addresses and phone numbers – were also involved. Their accounts may have been used to facilitate the alleged front-running activity.
