Today at Ewetopia Farms, we try to explain and demystify Sore Mouth or Orf, not in technical terms, but in layman's terms so that anyone can follow along with us.

When a sheep farmer first discovers Sore Mouth in his flock, the immediate reaction is dismay, fear, and shock. In sheep farming, you hear a lot about Sore Mouth on the internet and from other farmers and it is often presented as a plague in your flock. Although Sore Mouth is not something anyone wants in their flock, it is not all doom and gloom. Sore Mouth is indeed a highly contagious and vigorous virus that can run rampant in a flock however, it is more a discomfort for the sheep and the people who have to look at and deal with it than a deadlydisease. Secondary complications are the more serious issues. Although there is no cure for Sore Mouth, once it has run its course, the sheep will have developed lifetime immunity.
