In this 2 minute excerpt, the dancers demonstrate a basic exercise especially helpful for beginner students to develop articulation, flexibility and strength. As the spine stretches vertebra by vertebra off center in contraction, the abdominal muscles also stretch and lengthen to support the stretching spine. Throughout the exercise, the sits bones connect to the floor emphasizing that it is the work of the hips that controls and supports the movement.
The entire 25 minute coaching class, "Definitions," and the 65 minute technique class "The Class Do IT, " with exercises for the Floor, Barre, Center, with Combinations and Jumps complete the set "Contemporary Dance Training, the Gutelius Class.
