Ukulele Master | Jake (via video) Shimabukuro | TEDxSanDiego

Jake was a founding performer at the very first TEDxSanDiego in 2010. He is a virtuoso and by far the world's most renowned Ukulele player. His rendition of “My Heart Gently Weeps,” was one of the first big musical hits on YouTube and kickstarted his career. His performance at TEDxSanDiego 2022 was virtual due to ongoing challenges with the pandemic, and yet still yielded one of the more humorous, relatable, and energizing experiences of the event. Jake Shimabukuro has challenged and changed all notions of what is possible with a ukulele. Known for lightning fast fingers and revolutionary playing techniques, Jake Shimabukuro is a master of the ukulele. His music combines elements of jazz, blues, funk, rock, bluegrass, classical, folk, and flamenco. Shimabukuro has written numerous original compositions and is a very active community servant speaking to students at different schools about the importance of chasing after one’s passion and living a positive life. Jake was featured in an interview at TED 2010 and performed at the inaugural TEDxSanDiego in 2010.
