Cymbal Making - Lathing Before Hammering?

Описание к видео Cymbal Making - Lathing Before Hammering?

A video from my Patreon feed showing my thinking on the production process with this 21¾" Ride Cymbal. (🎞️ This is what it became:    • Collingwood Cymbals 21¾" Ride, 2354g   .)

Working as a cymbalsmith, there are no rules. There are, however, lots of assumptions out there, and I like to play with them, turning the process upside-down & inside-out and seeing what I can achieve.

There may not be any rules, but there are certainly successes and failures. The trick is knowing how to turn failure around, and how not to get complacent and repetitive with success. It's a constant fluctuation between these two which keeps learning at the forefront.

Coming up soon exclusively on Patreon will be a full tutorial as I make this same type of cymbal.

▶️ Hand-forming a bell, choosing the size & characteristics.
▶️ Preparing the rest of the bronze for shaping & manipulation.
▶️ Lathing the unhammered body of the cymbal, and the reasoning behind this step.
▶️ Shaping via hand-hammering, how that develops the shape & therefore the sound.
▶️ Problem solving, final lathing and finishing touches.
