Government troops in Tajikistan have joined forces with UN observers to survey the scenes of fierce gun battles that erupted near the capital Dushanbe at the end of last week. 20 government soldiers were killed and 80 wounded in clashes between government troops and oppposition rebels on Thursday (30/4) and Friday (1/4) Up to 25 civilians were also killed. In central Dushanbe armed soldiers patrol the streets.
