Vivian Edwards - Researching the Research Episode 4

This is episode, assistant research scientist Vivian Edwards walks us through the process of how coal is made and then liquified, to be used for graphite for lithium-ion batteries or used as a precursor for spinning carbon fiber.

Out of the lab, we meet Professor David Eaton, CAER Project Manager, who helps tell the story of how a work relationship with Vivian turned into a family relationship as he became Vivian's father-in-law.

And finally, we meet Banana, Vivian's pet tarantula, and learn about the flying spaghetti monster and their noodly appendages.
