Welsh Women's Peace Appeal

Описание к видео Welsh Women's Peace Appeal

In 1924, a small delegation from the Women’s Committee of the Welsh League of Nations Union traveled to the United States with the signatures of over 390,000 women collected from nearly every household in Wales the previous year. The Petition – over seven miles long – accompanied an appeal to peace to American women, encouraging their government’s membership in the League of Nations as part of a global endeavor to make the Great War the last world war.

Rediscovered in 2014 after decades in storage at the Smithsonian Institute, the Peace Appeal has reemerged into the international spotlight and the Petition has returned to Wales. As we celebrate its centennial and the women at the forefront of this global peace movement, join us for a commemorative ceremony featuring Ann Griffith from Heddwch Nain/Mam-gu and a performance by the North American Welsh Choir, followed by a conversation with historian Dr. Eirlys Barker; poet Dr. Mererid Hopwood, FLSW; and former Member of the European Parliament Jill Evans.
