Constantly Overlooked: Why Don't Airlines Want The Airbus A330neo?

Launched in July 2014 at the Farnborough Airshow, the Airbus A330neo was designed to be a more efficient update for its popular A330 program. Airlines around the world have operated - or continue to operate A330-200s and -300s, and Airbus has been betting that these same customers would modernize their fleets with an aircraft that had exceptional commonality with these older jets.

This has been the case with some airlines, but recent significant orders are proving that A330neos aren't guaranteed to be replacements for the "current engine option" A330ceos. So What's going on? And is there still a chance that things could change?
