Cars was a pretty great film which you could tell was a love letter by John Lasseter, the chief creative officer of Pixar, to everything he has a passion for. Cars had a good lesson to take in the simple moments in life, exhilarating racing and exposed audiences to a new and unique world. Cars wasn’t necessarily a box office powerhouse like Toy Story or the Force Awakens, but Cars has proven to be a massive franchise with huge merchandise sales and even its own land in California! In Cars 2, Pixar refocused its story onto the minor goofy character of Mater which brings the film into more ridiculous situations and loses some of what made the original good; they focus too much on spies and a hidden villain and less time on building characters and showing off the racing. Cars 3 looks to bring Lightning back as the main character and moves the franchise to what I see as a more positive note, but how could they have fixed the original sequel.
