Here is a fun way to practice independence (interdependence) in a swing context using George Lawrence Stone's Stick Control Book. This is just 1 of the multitudes of applications for this "biblical" drumming book.


Pages 5-7...all 1/8 notes with varied sticking patterns. Play all the R's on the Bass Drum and all the L's on the Snare Drum and/or toms. Play as written (phrased as triplets) with a jazz ride pattern and hi-hat on 2 & 4; then play the same sticking patterns, but with an 1/8 note subdivision.
