CANELO ALVAREZ (MEXICO) vs JAMES KIRKLAND (USA) - KO FIGHT

I don't know about you guys but that was a war. Kirkland gave it all he had, and literally went out on his shield. So props to him but Canelo was just fire in this one.

I know all the Mexicans would have loved watching their countryman perform in this way and once again display the Mexican style of boxing in explosive fashion.

This 3rd round knockout clash actually came straight after Canelo's close fight with Cuba's Erislandy Lara and preceded the fight he had with Puerto Rico's Miguel Cotto. This fight against Kirkland was definitely a milestone in Canelo's career.

Now guys, following the fight Canelo had with Munguia we are all eagerly anticipating who will be next to face off with Canelo in the squared circle.

It doesn't look like we will get a Canelo vs Benavidez or Morrell Jr fight any time soon as the IBF has just ordered Canelo to fight his mandatory William Scull from Cuba.

Now I don't object to mandatories but I just wonder why The WBC did not order Canelo to fight Benavidez with the same energy the IBF is bringing to Scull's opportunity because Benavidez as we all know was also a mandatory for Canelo.

The issue with William Scull is not his talent but because he has been in Germany, not that many people know him, and it's not a fight I believe will be popular.

TBH I'm not entirely sure what Canelo will do next, as his focus may be to fight who he wants to fight and also he knows it's not the belts that draw people to watch him fight. So there is a possibility he may want to drop the IBF belt and pursue his agenda.

Conversely, Canelo may want to end his career with all the belts and use it as a way to cement his supremacy during his final moments as a champion boxer.

So we must wait on Canelo's decision and any negotiations that occur between him and Team Scull.
