If you are here because of "Scrubs", then you have come to the right place. I saw that episode the other night and could not get this atmospheric wonder of a soul song out of my head after Turk sang it to his gf. It's so dreamy and steamy, a naughty but oh so nice vibe going on, soothing and sexy. This was the one that knocked Helen Reddy's feminist chestbanger "I Am Woman" after her first week at the #1 spot back in da day, then Billy stayed on at #1 for three weeks! Important as a single, it was the first #1 for Philadelphia International and writer/producers Gamble and Huff. A pivotal #1 song that announced that the sound of Philadelphia had usurped the premiere position of the sound of young America, Motown. It's a smooth jazz inflected song from the house of Sigma, the home of MFSB who so brought so much light into my life back in 1972. To hear this coming over the brand new FM Radio that was top of the line, my dad's boss gave it to him, it was one of those multi-band things, AM, FM, CB, Police, etc....you could travel round the world through that radio dial. Any way, I felt very happy to hear this song then and today too! It's a classic hit that Billy Paul was never able to repeat. It still sounds fresh, dontcha think? I have always loved this one, the strings and vibrancy of the production are top notch and good work stands up forever.
